  • Is Black Tea Okay?

Hi I'm going to do Prolon again. Last time I did it my biggest problem was caffeine withdrawals. Can I add any Caffeine into the diet without negating it effects? I Don't' mind either having black tea or caffeine supplements, but really need to have something! I'm an addict.

These are the caffeine pills I usually take:

The caffeine withdrawals can be quite intense and often the cause early symptoms like headache. Try slowly weaning off caffeine before starting your next cycle to make it the process easier. If you still need caffeine during the fast, it's allowed to have one cup per day (without any sugar, sweeteners, milk or cream). Try not to have the caffeine tablets, but tea or coffee instead if it's needed.

      Hi Admin

Can I still take*other kinds of drinks like chocolate drink? I am a strong coffee drinker what are other beverage that I can take besides coffee? How about milk can I drink more than a few cups of it or just one cup as you have mentioned? I would like to clarify if taking coffee is also allowed when I am not within the Five Day Programme? Or is it advisable to limit my caffeine and tea as well? Ed mentioned some headache, are these tolerable? I tend to have migraines once in a while will this affect me the same way or is it different from person to the other?

Hi Marra, it's preferred that you don't have any drink other than water, the L-drink (mixed with water of course) and the provided herbal teas. Outside of the 5-days, you can return to your a regular balanced diet using day 6 as a transition day with lighter foods and drinks. If you must have a cup of coffee or tea, limit it to one cup with nothing added (ie. no milk, cream, sugar, sweetener). I wouldn't recommend any chocolate drink or milk during the fast.

Most people find the headaches are tolerable - it can be due to caffeine withdrawal however it's also a common side effect of the fast, due to your body switching from using sugar for energy to fat. The variation and intensity does vary from person to person. Drinking plenty of water can assist with this. Also, weaning off your coffee for several days before you start the fast can make the withdrawal much more manageable.

You may find that the Hibiscus herbal tea has a fruity sweet taste that substitutes for stevia. It can be used for a cold infusion in the water bottle, as well as added to the spearmint lemon tea
